Before the break, second graders used what they had learned about parts of speech to build more complex sentences. We practiced building better sentences by answering who, what, when, where, and/or why questions in a variety of examples. Some students also found a simple sentence in their writing journals and used our strategy to turn it into a more sophisticated sentence.
This week, students had fun playing with parts of speech to create madlibs online. They can continue to play with madlibs at redkid.net/madlibs/. During math, students used a more challenging basic facts test to assess their current levels and created new goals for mastering basic facts. Some students also worked on money riddles if they did not need the core instruction being provided by Mrs. White.
