During reading, I worked with small groups of students to introduce them to two kinds of verbs, action verbs and linking verbs. After practicing, students were challenged to find as many verbs as possible for a given letter of the alphabet. Students were encouraged to use a dictionary for help, and they seemed to really enjoy this type of practice!
Small groups of students worked on sorting nouns into people, places, things, or ideas this week. They were also asked to add to our lists using their own words, and the ideas category really required them to stretch their thinking. During math, students were given a preassessment to help us plan our instruction of rounding to the nearest 10. We will use the results to form groups and differentiate instruction accordingly.
