Fifth graders began a new unit on measures of center this week. Measures of center include mean, median, and mode. We are also working with range, and students will be expected to analyze a given situation to decide which measure of center is most appropriate for determining the “average.”
Students have been doing an absolutely amazing job with our unit on fractions, decimals, and percents! They have been converting between those and comparing and ordering them. Students completed and assessment on Friday, so we will begin a new unit on statistics this week. Our study of statistics will include various graphs and their uses as well as finding mean, median, mode, and range. The unit will continue after Winter Break.
Students have been studying ratios and have continued to work with decimal computation. They took a quiz on each of those topics last Friday. Since this was a short week, students extended their work with ratios this week to include rates and unit prices. We will begins converting, comparing, and ordering fractions, decimals, and percents next week.
Fifth graders have been reviewing and practicing all four operations with decimals and applying their skills to solve word problems. Students also took the first math benchmark this week. We will be working with ratios next week, and students will take a quiz on decimal computation and ratios next Friday.
