After reading a story about the Gingerbread Man this week, Mrs. Holloway’s students carried out an experiment to see what would have happened to him if he had gone into the river in the story. They put a gingerbread man cookie into a jar of water and made predictions about what would happen to him. The results were quick and drastic! After only a minute or two, students couldn’t even pick him up out of the water. We discussed the results and listed our ideas about other things that would dissolve as quickly in water.
Students also received a Polar Express snack this week and used it to solve and create math word problems. The elf doughnuts (Cheerios), elf kisses (chocolate chips), antlers (pretzels), and reindeer noses (malted milk balls) were tallied by students. Each student used his or her own data to answer several math questions and create a math question of their own.
