This week, I worked with a small group of students during math. On Monday, we used input/output tables to begin working with multiplication while looking for patterns. After working through several of them together, students were asked to create tables of their own using either one-step or two-step rules. Most students truly challenged themselves! On Wednesday, we began exploring the inverse relationship between multiplication and division. Students looked at given pictures and described the multiplication and division statements that could be made about them. Mrs. Sampat and I have worked out a schedule change that will allow me to continue working with students during math once or twice every week.
Mrs. Sampat’s students have been studying another ancient culture, that of Mali in Africa. Students have read passages to gather facts about Mali while discussing their thoughts with their reading partners. They have also used a website called Thinglink to gather information. At this site, students used a map of Africa to click on various buttons which took them to other sites which they needed in order to find more information about Mali. Once they were finished collecting the information, they played “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” to review the facts about Mali.
