This week, Mrs. Sampat’s students came to my room to work on “Engineering Mystery Bags.” They chose a brown bag and used the items inside to meet a design challenge. Some students created marble runs while others created pom-pom launchers. A few pairs of students had enough time to work on both challenges.
I also worked with a small group of students during their math time this week. They practiced trading tens rods to get more ones cubes for subtraction, and they learned how to carry out the process without the manipulatives. We also began trading hundreds flats for tens rods to regroup for subtraction with three digits.
